A small Spanish mission-style building constructed in 1930 as Redondo Beach's first dedicated public library, on a corner site just above Veterans Park. White stucco walls, a red-tile roof, an arched arcaded entrance and decorative wrought-iron details make it one of the better-preserved examples of small-town Depression-era public architecture on the South Bay.
The library outgrew the building decades ago — a much larger modern library now serves the city from a separate site — but the original was preserved and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017. It is currently used for community events and is occasionally open for tours; check the city website for upcoming open days. The exterior alone is worth a stop on a walk along the Esplanade.
