Woldumar Nature Center is a useful green escape on the west side of Lansing, with trails through woods, prairie, and river-edge habitat. It is less polished than a formal garden, which is part of the appeal: this is where you go for a quiet walk rather than a programmed attraction.
For travellers, Woldumar works best if you have a car and want a break from capitol buildings, museums, and campus sights. Trails can be muddy after rain, but the centre gives a good look at mid-Michigan landscape without requiring a long drive out of town.
