Crossroads Arts District

Kansas City's creative warehouse district with monthly First Fridays

Kansas City's working arts district, immediately south of downtown, occupies a cluster of repurposed warehouses and industrial buildings. Galleries, studios, independent restaurants, and coffee shops fill the ground floors; working artists and small creative businesses occupy the upper levels. The First Friday event — held on the first Friday of each month — draws large crowds as galleries open their doors and food trucks line the streets. Less polished than some art districts, which is part of its appeal. The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art is here, with free admission and a strong permanent collection.
