The penguin exhibit at Kansas City Zoo, opened in 2019, is one of the newer additions to the zoo campus and a popular draw for families. African penguins waddle and swim in a naturalistic habitat designed to allow close-up viewing from multiple angles. The adjacent flamingo enclosure creates an informal African wetlands section in the northwest corner of the zoo grounds.
The zoo as a whole is well designed for extended family visits — the African section train tour, the Australian walkabout kangaroo experience, and the polar bear exhibit are the other key draws. Combined admission to the zoo and the connected Wonderscope Children's Museum at Crown Center is available.
