Leila's Hair Museum in Independence is an unusual museum devoted to Victorian-era hair art. Its collection includes hundreds of hair wreaths and more than a thousand pieces of jewelry or artwork made partly or entirely from human hair.
The subject sounds eccentric, but the displays give a clear look at a once-common form of mourning, memory, and domestic craft. It is a niche stop, best paired with Independence's larger Truman and frontier history sights.
