Power & Light District

Downtown entertainment block anchored by bars and the arena

The KC Power & Light District is a pedestrianized entertainment complex of about eight blocks in downtown Kansas City, immediately east of T-Mobile Center. Developed in the mid-2000s to anchor a downtown revival, it holds a mix of chain restaurants, bars, and live music venues around a central outdoor plaza that converts to a concert venue for major events. On Chiefs and Royals game days, and on weekend evenings, the district fills with large crowds and is one of the most energetic stretches of urban Kansas City.

The entertainment on offer is not particularly distinguished — it is chains and sports bars rather than independent originals — but the scale and the buzz are real. Several good local restaurants have opened around the edges. The rooftop terraces facing the arena plaza are among the better spots to be before a concert or game. For a taste of downtown Kansas City on a Friday or Saturday night, spending an hour here tells you something about the city's energy.
