Heartland of America Park is Omaha's downtown breathing space, set around a lake just east of the Old Market and close to the Missouri River. After its riverfront redevelopment, the park has become a more useful stop for travellers: paths, lawns, water views, and public art link the city centre to the broader riverfront trail system.
It is best treated as part of a walk rather than as a destination on its own. Start in the Old Market, cross into the park for the lake and skyline views, then continue toward the Gene Leahy Mall or the riverfront paths if you want to see how Omaha has been remaking its central waterfront.
