The Erie County Courthouse on Columbus Avenue is one of the best surviving examples of Romanesque Revival civic architecture in Ohio. Built in 1875 of local Sandusky limestone, with a tall central clock tower and arched windows, it dominates the downtown skyline.
Still in use as the working courthouse, with most of the original interior intact. The surrounding Columbus Avenue stretch has several other handsome 19th-century buildings, making for a pleasant 15-minute walk.
