Emerald Pools is a linked set of lower, middle, and upper pools tucked into a side canyon near Zion Lodge and the Grotto. The route is shorter and less intimidating than Angels Landing or The Narrows, which makes it popular with families and first-time visitors.
The pools are most rewarding after rain or during spring runoff, when water actually moves over the cliffs. In dry heat they can feel less emerald than promised, but the hanging gardens and canyon views still make the loop worthwhile.
