Zion Canyon Scenic Drive

The main canyon road through Zion, linking shuttle stops, trailheads, cliffs, and Virgin River views.

Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is the road that gives Zion its grand reveal. It follows the North Fork of the Virgin River beneath the park's huge sandstone walls, connecting trailheads for the Emerald Pools, Angels Landing, the Riverside Walk, and other canyon-floor stops. Even if you hike only a little, the ride itself is one of the essential Zion experiences.

For much of the year private cars are restricted and visitors use the park shuttle, which is slower but much better for actually looking at the cliffs. Start early if you want quieter stops and cooler temperatures. The changing light on the canyon walls is part of the point, so the drive feels different in morning, midday, and late afternoon.
