Richmond's former industrial warehouse district has been transformed over the past decade into the city's most concentrated cluster of craft breweries, cideries, meaderies, and small-batch distilleries. Hardywood Park, The Veil, Ardent, Väsen, Buskey Cider, and a dozen others operate here within walking distance of each other, making an afternoon of progressive tasting the most popular thing to do in the neighbourhood.
The architecture is working industrial: brick warehouses, loading docks, and wide streets built for trucks rather than pedestrians. But the district has held onto its physical character even as its function changed, and the result is more interesting than a purpose-built entertainment district would be. Food trucks cluster near the brewery entrances on weekend afternoons. The Pulse bus rapid transit line has a stop at the edge of the district.
