East Fork Quinault River Trail

Backcountry rainforest trail from Graves Creek toward Enchanted Valley.

The East Fork Quinault River Trail is the long, wet south-side route into one of Olympic National Park's great rainforest valleys. Starting from Graves Creek, it climbs and drops through big conifers, mossy maple flats, river gorges, and backcountry camps on the way to Enchanted Valley.

This is more than a short forest stroll. The full outing is a serious backpacking trip, usually two or three days out and back, with black bears, elk, mud, changing river conditions, and wilderness permits to think about. Day hikers can still sample the lower trail toward Pony Bridge, which gives a good taste of the valley without committing to the full backcountry route.
