Flapjack Lakes Trail is one of the classic hikes out of the Staircase area of Olympic National Park, climbing through old forest toward a pair of mountain lakes tucked below the Sawtooth Range. It is a proper day hike rather than a roadside stroll: expect steady elevation gain, wet roots, and a long enough outing that an early start pays off.
The reward is a quieter side of Olympic than the famous rain forest and Hurricane Ridge corridors. The lakes sit in a granite bowl with good onward options toward Gladys Divide for strong hikers, while backpackers use the area as a base for exploring the southeastern corner of the park. Check trail and road conditions before setting out, since snow and storm damage can linger well into the season.
