Staircase is the southeastern gateway area of Olympic National Park, reached near Lake Cushman and centered on forest, river, and mountain-edge trails. It is less famous than Hurricane Ridge or the Hoh, but that lower profile is part of its appeal.
For Olympic travelers, Staircase is a strong choice for old-growth atmosphere without crossing the whole peninsula. Check road and campground status before going, then plan a river walk or longer hike depending on conditions and daylight.
