The Charleston City Hall, a small but dignified Beaux-Arts building on Court Street facing the railroad embankment, opened in 1921. The pale limestone facade with its arched window bay, low-pitched green-tiled roof, and bronze entrance lamps is a confident piece of the optimism that produced the wider downtown of that decade.
The building is not generally open beyond the lobby and council chamber. The exterior is the main interest; combine with a walk through the surrounding historic district.
