Museo Provincial de Bellas Artes Timoteo Navarro

Tucumán's provincial fine arts museum sits on the corner of Plaza Independencia, a manageable collection focused on Argentine painters with strong representation from the northwestern provinces. The permanent collection includes works by Lino Eneas Spilimbergo, Antonio Berni, and Raquel Forner, alongside paintings by the museum's namesake, the Tucumán-born artist Timoteo Eneas Navarro, who died young in 1944.

The building itself is a restored colonial townhouse with patios and tiled floors, an attractive setting for the rotating temporary exhibitions that fill the smaller galleries. Entry is free or very inexpensive, and the museum is rarely crowded — a quiet hour or two among local art makes a fine break from the heat of the plaza.
