Basílica Santuario Nacional de Maipú

The Basílica Santuario Nacional de Maipú is one of Santiago's major religious monuments, built as a national thanksgiving for Chile's victory in the wars of independence. The vast modern basilica also has a museum connected with the first Chilean government, with documents, paintings, clothing, and other historical objects.

It is most atmospheric around the Feast of Quasimodo, held on the first Sunday after Easter, when local religious traditions bring extra life to the sanctuary.
