The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MAC) occupies the eastern wing of the same Beaux-Arts building as the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in the Parque Forestal. The MAC was founded in 1947 and focuses on Chilean and international contemporary art, with a permanent collection and rotating temporary exhibitions. The quality of the temporary shows in particular has improved significantly in recent years.
The MAC runs a second venue, MAC Quinta Normal, in the Parque Quinta Normal — a separate building worth knowing about if you are already visiting the other museums in that park. Both venues have free admission for the permanent collection. Open Tuesday to Saturday; check the website for current exhibition listings.
