Piscina Tupahue and the adjacent Piscina Antilén sit near the summit of Cerro San Cristóbal, making them the most dramatically situated public swimming pools in any major city in South America. The pools are open in the Santiago summer (December to March), and swimming here — with views of the Andes on one side and the city sprawled below on the other — is one of the better experiences available in the city for a modest entrance fee.
The pools are part of the Parque Metropolitano complex. You reach them by funicular or cable car from the base of the hill, or on foot via the hiking trails. The pools are popular with Santiago families on summer weekends; arrive early in the morning for a quieter swim. There is a café and snack bar at Tupahue.
