Chapinero, stretching along the eastern foothills between La Candelaria and the Zona Rosa, is Bogota's most bohemian and openly LGBT-friendly neighbourhood. The lower part of the barrio, around Avenida Chapinero and Calle 57–65, has a dense concentration of cheap restaurants, coffee shops, and LGBTQ bars that stay open late.
The neighbourhood has a rougher edge than the Zona Rosa — streets are busier and less polished — but it is precisely this that makes it interesting. It is also home to several of the city's better independent bookshops and record stores. The hilltop areas above, known as Chapinero Alto, are residential and quieter, with excellent views over the city.
