Biblioteca Luis Ángel Arango

One of Latin America's great public libraries, in La Candelaria — free concerts and art shows

The Luis Ángel Arango, run by the Banco de la República, is one of the most visited libraries in the world and one of the finest in Latin America. It sits in a complex of colonial and modern buildings in La Candelaria, a short walk from the Museo Botero. The library holds a remarkable collection of rare books and manuscripts alongside modern reading rooms open to anyone.

But the main draw for visitors is the cultural programming: the library mounts free classical music concerts several days a week in the Sala de Conciertos Luis Ángel Arango, a 300-seat hall with excellent acoustics. Tickets are free and released online — they go fast. The library also hosts rotating art exhibitions and has one of the best bookshops in the city. Open Monday to Saturday 8am–8pm, Sunday 8am–4pm.
