If Stabroek is the photogenic market, Bourda is the working one. The fresh produce market spreads out along Regent Street and Orange Walk, with stalls selling fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, spices, and everything a Georgetown household actually buys. The variety of tropical produce is the draw — soursop, custard apples, dragon fruit, half a dozen varieties of mango, and the chillies that make Guyanese cooking what it is.
Go in the morning when it is busiest and the produce is fresh. The surrounding streets have cheap fabric shops, basic clothing, and street food vendors. Less of a tourist sight than Stabroek but a better window into daily Georgetown life.
