Amizmiz

Small Berber town below the High Atlas, known for its Tuesday souk and trekking access.

Amizmiz is a small Berber town about 55 km south of Marrakech, at the foot of the High Atlas mountains. Most of its inhabitants are Chleuh Berbers who speak Tashelhiyt.

The main draw is the Tuesday souk, one of the larger weekly markets in the region. Berbers come down from the mountain villages to trade, and the market is lively and authentic — far less touristic than the souks in Marrakech. Amizmiz also serves as a gateway for treks into the High Atlas, with several operators offering day hikes or multi-day trips to Berber villages in the surrounding valleys.

Things to Do

Amizmiz is a base for exploring the western High Atlas. The Tuesday souk is the highlight if your timing works out, and treks into the mountain villages give a glimpse of traditional Berber life that has changed remarkably little.
