The Banco de Moçambique central bank headquarters dominates the southern end of the Baixa skyline — twin glass-and-steel towers of 38 storeys, the tallest buildings in the country when the second tower opened in the early 2020s. The complex includes the central bank's offices, a conference centre and the Money Museum in the older 1960s building next door.
The towers are not open to the public, but the plaza at their base is a popular meeting place and an easy reference point when walking the Baixa. The reflective glass picks up the colour of the bay especially well at sunrise and sunset.
