State House

Presidential residence on Tower Hill, a relic of the British colonial fortifications

The State House is the official residence and office of the President of Sierra Leone and sits on State Avenue at the top of Tower Hill. The earliest parts of the building were colonial fortifications protecting the harbour below; the modern complex includes ceremonial halls, the cabinet room, and the president's offices.

The building cannot be visited but can be seen from outside. The road past it gives some of the best views over the bay and the harbour. Avoid taking photographs of the entrance — the guards are touchy about it.
