Mbudya lies about three kilometres offshore from Kunduchi, north of the city — twenty minutes by motor boat from the resort beach there. It is the quieter and more rustic of the two main day-trip islands; no permanent buildings, a few sun-bleached bandas, and a clutch of fishermen who grill the catch on driftwood fires.
The snorkelling is comparable to Bongoyo and the beach is broader, but the logistics take more planning. Hotel boats at Bahari Beach or Whitesands have the most reliable schedules; freelance fishermen at the Kunduchi boatyard run a cheaper, looser service. Pack everything you need for the day — there is no shop.
