The oldest and most important mosque in Tunis, dating to 732 CE, sits at the heart of the medina. Non-Muslims cannot enter the prayer hall but can admire the courtyard. For the best view of the mosque and its minaret, climb one of the terraces of the carpet shops that surround it.
