The original 1932 Art Deco station, abandoned during the long civil war and dormant for decades, was restored in 2016 and once again handles passenger trains — south to Sihanoukville and (intermittently) west towards Poipet via Battambang. The yellow stucco façade and shaded forecourt are a quiet pocket of the colonial city.
Trains are slow and infrequent — typically one a day on each route — but the journey south to the coast is one of the most pleasant in Southeast Asia, winding through paddy fields and small market towns. Tickets cost a few dollars; book ahead at the station or online.
