The FCC opened in the 1990s in a yellow colonial-era building on Sisowath Quay, taking its name and atmosphere from the press clubs that once operated in Saigon and Bangkok. Generations of correspondents, photographers and travelling journalists have leaned on its first-floor balcony with a beer and a notebook, watching the lights of the riverboats below.
The building still belongs on any first-time itinerary, even if the press corps moved on long ago. The pizza is acceptable, the cocktails are fine, and the view across the Tonle Sap River at sunset is unbeatable. Live jazz some evenings.
