Sisowath Quay

Riverside promenade lined with bars, restaurants and street food stalls

The two-kilometre stretch of road along the Tonle Sap and Mekong rivers is the city's most popular evening hangout. Locals gather on the grass strip between the road and the water from dusk onwards — families spread mats and share takeaway dinners, teenagers play badminton, exercise groups perform synchronised aerobics to booming speakers.

The far side of the road is a continuous strip of bars, restaurants, guesthouses and travel agencies aimed at backpackers, with the Foreign Correspondents' Club at its centre. Wander north from the Royal Palace to Wat Phnom around sunset, then settle in for dinner with a view.
