Quanzhou Museum of Overseas Chinese History

Museum explaining how Quanzhou families migrated, traded, and built communities overseas

The Quanzhou Museum of Overseas Chinese History fills an important gap in the city story. Quanzhou was not only a medieval port of mosques, temples, and stone bridges; it was also an ancestral home for generations of Chinese migrants who left for Southeast Asia and kept ties back to Fujian.

The exhibits trace why people left, how they travelled, and how Quanzhou communities adapted abroad, especially in places such as Singapore, Malaysia, and the broader Nanyang world. It is a good companion to the Maritime Museum: one explains the ships and trading port, the other follows the people who carried Quanzhou with them.
