Quanzhou's historical core contains one of the most remarkable concentrations of medieval religious architecture in Asia: Buddhist temples, a Song-dynasty mosque, a Hindu temple, a Manichean shrine, a Zoroastrian fire temple, and Jewish gravestones all within walking distance of each other — the physical remnants of the most cosmopolitan port city in the medieval world. UNESCO inscribed sixteen sites here in 2021 under the collective title "Quanzhou: Emporium of the World in Song-Yuan China."
The filter below helps navigate the different types of heritage. The old town around Zhongshan Road and Tumen Street is the most productive area on foot; the Luoyang Bridge and the Anhai sites lie further out but are worth the trip.
