Guangzhou's surviving ancient city wall is a short but evocative stretch of masonry in Yuexiu Park. The wall was built in 1380 and once enclosed the city, but most of it was removed during 20th-century redevelopment.
The remaining kilometre is at its best as part of a Yuexiu Park walk. Trees now grow from parts of the wall, their roots spilling down the old stonework.
