Nanning Mosque

The Nanning Mosque (Qingzhen Si) on Jiangnan Road in Xingning District is the principal mosque serving Nanning's Hui Muslim community. The building has a history reaching back to the Song dynasty, though the current structure dates to the Qing period with twentieth-century renovations. Guangxi's proximity to Vietnam and the trade routes connecting southern China with Southeast Asia established Muslim communities in Nanning long before the city became a provincial capital.

The mosque serves an active congregation — Friday prayers draw several hundred worshippers — and functions primarily as a place of worship rather than a tourist sight. Visitors who wish to look around should dress modestly and check that no services are in progress. The adjacent halal market street is a practical expression of Nanning's ethnic and religious diversity, with food vendors selling Hui-style snacks and grilled meats distinct from the Zhuang-influenced mainstream food culture of the city.
