Renmin Park (People's Park), also known as White Dragon Park for the White Dragon Lake at its centre, is the oldest public park in Nanning, laid out during the Republican era in the 1930s. It occupies a central location in Xingning District and functions as a genuine neighbourhood park — used for morning exercise, weekend gatherings, and the kind of informal public life that larger Chinese cities have been slowly designing out of existence.
The park's lake has paddleboats and an island connected by a zigzag bridge. The surrounding pines, banyans, and tropical flowering trees make it denser and greener than most parks its size. It lacks the manicured formality of some city parks; this is part of its charm. The teahouses around the lake are cheap and inhabited by retirees playing cards from early morning; they will not mind if you sit and watch.
