Qingyunpu (青云谱) is the southern district of Nanchang, notable primarily for the Bada Shanren Memorial Museum housed in the Taoist complex where the seventeenth-century painter Zhu Da (八大山人) lived and worked after the fall of the Ming dynasty. The museum and the restored gardens around it are among the most atmospheric places in the city — quiet, well maintained, and visited by a fraction of the crowds that throng Bayi Square.
Beyond the museum, Qingyunpu is an unremarkable suburban area. But the combination of the Taoist monastery setting and the extraordinary paintings on display inside makes it worth the metro ride south from the city center.
