Xianghu Lake (象湖) is a natural lake in the southwestern part of Nanchang that has been developed into a scenic wetland park. The lake and surrounding reed beds support waterfowl year-round, with egrets, cormorants, and ducks visible most days. The surrounding park has walkways, pavilions, and lotus-viewing platforms that are crowded on summer mornings when the lotus flowers are at their peak.
The area gives a taste of the wetland landscape that once extended across much of the Poyang basin before urban expansion and land reclamation changed the local ecology. It's a useful substitute for Poyang Lake if you don't have time for the full day trip north.
