Xihu (西湖区) sits south and west of the city center, anchored by the Gan River to its west. It is a quieter, more residential area than Donghu, with traditional wet markets, neighborhood restaurants serving everyday Jiangxi cooking, and the Star of Nanchang Ferris wheel rising on the riverfront. The area around the Yanjiang Road riverside walkway is pleasant in the evenings, especially when the synchronized LED light show across the river is running.
The district has fewer headline tourist sites than Donghu but more of the texture of ordinary Nanchang life. The covered market streets here are better for everyday shopping and street food than the more polished commercial zones to the east.
