Honggutan (红谷滩) is Nanchang's modern showcase district — planned and built from scratch on the west bank of the Gan River opposite the old city. Glass towers, wide boulevards, government buildings, and the provincial financial center all cluster here, alongside the gleaming Nanchang Greenland Central Plaza. The district is visually striking from the Donghu side of the river, especially at night when the LED displays light up the skyline.
The contrast with the old city is stark and intentional. Honggutan is where Nanchang presents its face to the future: ordered, clean, and resolutely modern. It's worth crossing the river to see, particularly to appreciate the scale of Chinese urban development in a second-tier city that most visitors overlook.
