Coloane Village sits at the southern tip of Macau, about as far as you can get from the Cotai Strip casinos while remaining in the territory. It is a small, quiet settlement of Portuguese-era houses, Chinese temples, and a scattering of seafood restaurants that feels entirely unlike the rest of Macau. The black-sand Cheoc Van and Hac Sa beaches are a short walk from the village.
The standout attraction is Lord Stow's Bakery on the village square — the Portuguese egg tart shop that started the Macau egg tart craze and is still considered the definitive version. The 19th-century Chapel of St Francis Xavier on the waterfront square is worth a look, and the Fernando's restaurant on Hac Sa beach is a Macau institution for lunch after a swim. A useful escape from the neon if you are spending more than a day in Macau.
