Senado Square

Wave-paved colonial square at the heart of old Macau

The heart of the old city — a long open square paved in a wave pattern of black-and-white Portuguese calçada tiles, lined with pastel colonial buildings housing banks, churches and cafes. The 18th-century Leal Senado (Loyal Senate) building on the south side served as the colonial city hall and still houses local government. From here, pedestrian lanes run north to the Ruins of São Paulo.
