Tang West Market Museum

Museum on the site of Tang Chang’an’s cosmopolitan west market and Silk Road trade.

Tang West Market Museum is built around the idea of Chang'an as a trading capital, not just an imperial one. The west market of the Tang city was where merchants, goods, languages, religions, and fashions from across the Silk Road met the Chinese courtly world.

For travellers, the museum adds useful context after the city walls, pagodas, and Shaanxi History Museum. It helps shift Xi'an from a list of dynastic monuments into a living commercial crossroads, where Central Asia and China were in daily contact through trade.
