Panlong is the central-eastern district of Kunming, running north from Jinma Biji Square along Beijing Road. It is mostly modern — high-rise residential and office buildings — but contains the city's main department-store strip, the railway museum, the Kundu Bar Street nightlife area, and the eastern edge of the old town around the East Pagoda.
The district is named for the Panlong river that runs through it, which has been mostly canalised and is hidden under traffic. Worth knowing because most of the cheaper hotels and many of the bus terminals are inside Panlong's boundaries.
