Wuhua is the central district of Kunming and the part most visitors spend their time in. It contains the city's old town around Jinma Biji Square, the historic intellectual quarter around Cuihu Park and Yunnan University, and the main pedestrian shopping streets running between the two. Most of the heritage sights — Yuantong Temple, the East and West pagodas, the Yunnan Military Academy, Cuihu Park itself — are inside Wuhua.
It is also one of the easier parts of the city to walk in: the boulevards south of Cuihu have mostly been pedestrianised, and the side streets in the Wenlin district have kept their human scale. The metro Line 2 runs through the district from north to south.
