Set inside Sayaji Baug park, the Baroda Museum is one of the best general museums in Gujarat -- founded by Sayajirao III in 1894 and clearly modelled on the South Kensington (now V&A) museum he had visited in London. The collection runs across art, archaeology, geology, and ethnography, with strong galleries of Mughal miniatures, Tibetan religious art, and an Egyptian mummy that has been a fixture for generations of Baroda schoolchildren. The adjoining Picture Gallery has European paintings collected on the Maharaja's travels.
