Gendi Gate is one of the old gateways that still hints at Vadodara’s earlier urban form. Traffic and commercial life now crowd around it, which can make the structure easy to miss, but that is also part of its interest: the historic city is embedded in the modern one.
Do not expect a restored museum-piece monument. Visit while walking the older quarters, look at the masonry and proportions, and use it as a prompt to read Vadodara beyond the grander Gaekwad-era sights.
