Masilamaniswara Temple

Masilamaniswara Temple is a Shiva temple in Chennai's northwestern suburbs, traditionally linked to the Chola period and believed to date back to the 9th century. Its five-tiered gopurams make it a strong local example of Tamil temple architecture.

It is not as central as Mylapore's famous temples, but it rewards visitors who want to look beyond the usual Chennai circuit. Go during active worship hours for the liveliest atmosphere, and dress modestly.
