Hazarduari Palace is Murshidabad's headline sight. The name means "a thousand doors", a mix of real and false doors in a long European-style palace built in the 1830s for Nawab Nazim Humayun Jah.
The palace now houses a museum with paintings, weapons, manuscripts, furniture, and objects from the nawab court. Even before you go inside, the scale is striking: broad lawns, colonnades, and the huge Nizamat complex gathered around it. It is the place that makes Murshidabad feel like a former capital rather than a provincial town with ruins.
