Muara Angke Nature Reserve

Muara Angke Nature Reserve protects a rare patch of mangrove habitat in north Jakarta, a city where wetlands have mostly been pushed aside by roads, housing, and industry. Birdlife is the main reason to come, but you may also see monitor lizards, monkeys, and the dense tangle of plants that once lined much more of the coast.

The reserve is quiet and simple rather than polished. Check current access rules before going, as permit requirements and gate arrangements have changed over time.
