Turquoise volcanic crater lake in the highlands south of Bandung

A collapsed volcanic crater 46km south of Bandung, filled with a milky turquoise lake that shifts colour depending on light and sulphur concentration. The white-grey crater walls, dead trees at the water's edge, and cloud that frequently rolls in give it a distinctly otherworldly atmosphere. At 2,194 metres it is cold — bring layers. The lake is mildly acidic and the sulphur fumes are strong; don't linger at the water's edge longer than you need to for photos. Combine with Ciwidey's strawberry farms and the Situ Patengan lake for a full southern highlands day.
